A group chat at 99+, your boss messaging you, someone you're not sure about yet — you want to see what was said without the moment you open it turning into a read receipt. NinjaLook brings your unread LINE messages to you, and nothing shows up as read on their side. Take your time deciding what to say.

What is NinjaLook? A way to preview unread LINE messages without a read receipt

NinjaLook is a third-party service you use inside LINE. It lets you read the unread messages in your own account without the sender seeing a "Read" mark. You enter your phone number in the official account, approve once from your own phone, and about a minute later you get a notification. The unread messages appear as a familiar chat view and are deleted automatically after 24 hours. Each peek costs 1 point; new friends get 5 points free.

"I want to know what they actually said — but opening LINE marks it as read."— so you end up guessing from the notification bar.

"99+ unread in a group chat. I don't want to open them one by one."— opening it tells everyone you're online.

"A message at midnight. I want to see it before deciding whether to reply."— reading it and not replying is somehow worse.

LINE read receipts

How do you read a LINE message without marking it as read?

LINE has no setting to turn read receipts off — open a chat in the app and the sender sees "Read". There is no official switch. So people improvise, and every workaround has a cost. Here's what the common tricks actually do, and where NinjaLook differs.

  • Airplane mode, then open itYou only see what already downloaded to your phone — long messages and images are often cut off. And once you turn airplane mode off and reconnect, the read receipt usually goes out anyway.
  • Read the notification or lock-screen previewYou get the first line or two. More messages push it out of view, and a busy group chat buries it in seconds. Clear the notification and it's gone for good.
  • Look for a "disable read receipts" settingThere isn't one. LINE doesn't offer it. Guides claiming otherwise are either outdated or trying to get you to install something you shouldn't.
  • Check on the desktop app firstSame result. Desktop and phone are the same account — opening the chat is opening the chat.
  • Ask a friend to check the group for youYou're asking a favour, you still can't see one-to-one chats, and you've handed over your privacy.
  • Use NinjaLookThe ninja retrieves the full unread content and never opens the conversation on your behalf, so no read receipt appears on their side. Complete messages, group chats included, about a minute to arrive, auto-deleted after 24 hours.

Two things to be upfront about:
① The ninja retrieves text messages, stickers and images — none of them leave a read receipt. Video and files aren't supported yet; you'll see a marker saying "1 video / file", but not the content itself. (Unread images are downloaded directly without opening the chat; if a link has expired and one can't be fetched, it shows a placeholder and doesn't affect the rest.)
② NinjaLook lets you read first without leaving a read receipt. When you later open that chat on your own phone, it will mark as read normally. We can't change what the other person sees, and we won't pretend otherwise. That line stays clear.

Why NinjaLook

See your unread LINE messages — in and out without a trace

Nothing technical to learn, no settings to change, nothing to install. The ninja runs the mission; you just wait for the result.

No read receipt

The ninja brings your unread LINE content back without opening the conversation or sending anything on your behalf — so nothing lights up as read on their side.

Give the ninja a minute

Once you approve on your phone, the rest is just waiting — measured at roughly 40–50 seconds to deliver your unread messages.

Looks like a LINE chat

Only chats that actually have unread messages are listed. Tap in and you get familiar chat bubbles — who said what, at a glance. Text, stickers and images supported (none leave a read receipt); video and files not yet.

Burns after reading

Results are kept for 24 hours and then deleted automatically. You can also delete them by hand at any time — one tap, gone.

No app to install

Everything happens inside LINE: adding us, entering your number, reading the result. No storage used, no app store review to wait for.

Pay for what you use

Points, not subscriptions. One point per successful peek. No monthly fee, no auto-renewal — a quiet month costs you nothing.

How it works

How to read unread LINE messages first — 3 steps, about 2 minutes the first time

You only do two things: enter your number, then tap "confirm" once on your own phone.

Add the LINE official account and enter your phone number

Scan the QR code or tap the button to add "NinjaLook" on LINE, then enter your own phone number from the menu (Taiwan +886 numbers only for now).

Approve once on your phone

You'll be shown a verification code. On your own phone, go to LINE → Settings → Account → Pair a new device, enter it and confirm. After the first time it's usually just biometrics — no code needed.

Get notified, open, read

The ninja runs the mission and the official account notifies you when it's done. Open it to see your unread chats and their contents; everything disappears within 24 hours.

About that "one minute": it refers to the passive wait after you finish approving (measured at roughly 40–50 seconds). Including setup, it's about 1.5 minutes from start to reading; queue time at peak hours is extra. We'd rather tell you where the clock starts than pick a prettier number.

What users say

They took back control of whether — and when — to reply

Three real pieces of feedback from people who use NinjaLook. Different situations, same idea: see the message first, then decide how to reply on your own terms.

01

After work, read first — then decide whether to reply

When my manager messaged me on LINE at night, just opening it meant being pulled straight back into work mode.

Now I can read the message first without leaving a read receipt. If it's just a reminder about tomorrow's meeting, I deal with it the next morning; if it's truly urgent, I reply right away.

ResultA lot less of the "you've read it, so why haven't you replied?" pressure.

Get on top of client messages without replying on the spot

As a freelancer, my biggest fear was a client seeing "Read" and expecting an instant answer.

Sometimes a client sends a dozen messages and change requests at once, and I want to read everything and get organized before I reply properly. Now I can check exactly what they need — without leaving a read receipt — and reply once my answer is ready.

ResultBetter replies, and I'm no longer held hostage by the "read" timestamp.

Those tricky messages — no more accidental "Read"

Some messages aren't ones I don't want to answer — I just haven't figured out how to answer yet.

Before, when someone messaged me on LINE, I wanted to know what it said but didn't dare open it, so I'd just stare at the notification preview and guess. Now I can read the full message without instantly marking it read, take a moment to think, and then decide how to respond.

ResultLess of the awkward accidental "Read," and a little more room to think.

Safety and privacy

Your LINE messages — visible only to you

The question a service like this should be asked is "so can you see them?". Here's what we actually do. Writing it here is the commitment.

  • Your own account onlyEvery mission is started by you and only completes after you confirm it on your own phone. You cannot use this service to read someone else's messages.
  • We never ask for your LINE passwordApproval happens entirely inside LINE on your own phone. We don't store your password and we'll never ask you to hand it to anyone.
  • We don't open chats or send messages for youThe ninja only retrieves unread content. It doesn't reply, doesn't tap anything on your behalf, and therefore doesn't create read receipts.
  • Destroyed automatically after 24 hoursYour preview is bound to your account — a link alone won't open it for anyone else. After 24 hours the storage layer discards it: not because we remember to delete it, but because it stops existing when the timer runs out. You can also delete it instantly yourself.
  • We don't keep your chat historyApart from the one preview you asked for, your messages aren't stored anywhere. Not logged, not analysed, not attached to support tickets, not backed up, not used to train anything. Even our own admin panel has no screen that can show your chat content — not "we promise not to look", but no door to look through.
  • Cut us off whenever you likeIn LINE, go to "Logged-in devices" and log the device out. The service immediately loses the ability to retrieve anything, and the next use requires fresh approval.
  • Operated by a registered Taiwanese companyRun by Jiajin International Co., Ltd. (tax ID 54255401) — registered, with a support address and someone accountable. Not an anonymous website.
  • Payments via LINE Pay and credit cardTop up with LINE Pay or a credit card (Apple Pay / Google Pay supported). We never touch or store your payment details.

FAQ

LINE read receipts and NinjaLook: common questions

If I use NinjaLook, will the other person see "Read"?
No. While retrieving your unread messages, nothing opens the conversation or sends anything on your behalf, so no read state is created on their side. One thing to note: when you later open that chat on your own phone, it will mark as read as usual.
Can LINE read receipts be turned off?
No — LINE has no setting to disable read receipts. Open a chat in the app and the sender sees "Read". That's LINE's default behaviour and there's no official switch. Common workarounds like airplane mode or notification previews have clear limits (incomplete content, and the receipt often goes out later anyway). NinjaLook works by never opening the conversation for you — it retrieves the unread content directly, so nothing appears as read on their side.
Is NinjaLook an official LINE service?
No. NinjaLook is an independent third-party service operated by Jiajin International Co., Ltd. It has no affiliation, agency or partnership with LINE Corporation / LY Corporation, and carries no official endorsement. We work alongside LINE; we are not a LINE feature.
Do I have to give you my LINE password?
Absolutely not. The whole approval flow happens inside LINE on your own phone — entering a code, tapping confirm, or using biometrics. We never request or store your password. Be suspicious of any service that asks for your LINE password.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Adding us, entering your number and reading results all happen inside LINE. Nothing takes up storage and there's nothing to install from the App Store or Google Play.
How do I start? What do I set up in LINE?
Add the official account → enter your phone number from the menu → a verification code appears → in LINE on your phone, go to Home → Settings (top right) → Account → Pair a new device, enter the number and code, and confirm. The first time takes about two minutes; after that it's much quicker.
Do I have to turn on “device unlock” on my phone before I start?
Yes. When the ninja signs in, your phone shows a confirmation screen — with device unlock set up you approve it with a fingerprint or face; without it you get stuck at this step and the job can't finish. Set it up once in LINE under “Home → Settings (top right) → Account → Device unlock method → Link” (this requires fingerprint or face unlock already set up on your phone). Illustration of LINE on your phone (not this screen) Account General info Device unlock method Link Requires: fingerprint/face unlock set up on your phone ① Tap here
Why don't I need the code the second time?
After the first approval, your device-link state is stored encrypted and used only for your own next mission, so LINE will usually just ask for biometrics (Face ID / fingerprint). This data is per-user and never shared with anyone else.
Can I see images, video and files too?
Images: yes — and still no read receipt. Unread images are downloaded directly without opening the chat, and in testing the unread state stayed unchanged. Video and files aren't supported yet — you'll see a type marker but not the content. (A few images can't be fetched if their link has expired and will show a placeholder.)
How long does one peek take?
After you finish approving, the passive wait is about 40–50 seconds; end to end, including setup, roughly 1.5 minutes. At peak times you may queue — the screen shows the current progress.
How long do you keep my unread messages?
24 hours. When the timer runs out the storage layer discards it — it doesn't depend on us remembering to delete anything. You can also delete it instantly at any time. Results only open with your own LINE account: a link alone won't work for anyone else.
Can it be used to spy on someone else's LINE?
No, and we deliberately made that impossible. Every mission requires the owner of that number to confirm on their own phone. Phone numbers are also bound one-to-one to a LINE account, which stops anyone starting a mission with someone else's number. This is a premise of the service, not a configurable setting.
How does pricing work? Is there a subscription?
No monthly fee, no auto-renewal. Points: one point per successful peek, nothing charged on failure. Limited-time offer: NT$99 / 20 點、NT$249 / 55 點、NT$499 / 120 點. New friends get 5 points on joining. Pay with LINE Pay or a credit card.
How do I stop using it and delete my data?
Let's be precise about scope. What you can do yourself is stop using it and delete your previews — log the device out from "Logged-in devices" in LINE and the service instantly loses the ability to retrieve anything; previews can be deleted from the service menu.
Which countries' LINE numbers are supported?
The interface is available in Traditional Chinese, Japanese, English and Thai, switching automatically to your LINE language (you can also pick manually). Supported numbers: Taiwan +886, Japan +81, Thailand +66, Hong Kong +852 and Korea +82 — choose yours from the dropdown on the peek screen.
Could NinjaLook stop working one day?
Honestly: yes, it could. The service depends on the behaviour of third-party software. If an update on their side breaks it, we'll stop accepting new top-ups and missions and announce it on the official account. Points you paid for and can't use will be refunded. We won't keep burning your points, and we won't keep your money.
Is it awkward to read and not reply? Can I look first and decide after?
That's exactly what NinjaLook is for. The awkwardness of "read but no reply" comes from being forced to mark it read before you know whether you want to reply. NinjaLook reverses the order — see the content first, then decide whether and when to answer. Nothing shows as read on their side until you actually open the conversation, so a quick look doesn't cost you anything socially.
Is paying safe?
Top up with LINE Pay or a credit card (Apple Pay / Google Pay supported). We never touch or store your payment details. Points are credited only after payment succeeds, and every transaction leaves a record you can check.
